Ay, there's the rub.

Salmon in the Dishwasher?!

I did it. Twice, in fact.

Pros of Cooking Salmon in the Dishwasher:

  • The salmon was very moist! It was perfectly poached by my standards. Salmon cooked in the oven gets kind of dry, so this is the preferred method I think.
  • I was able to wash my dishes and make dinner at the same time (contrary to what everyone seems to believe, the salmon does not taste like soap or gross food residue. You wrap it in aluminum foil! Wrap it carefully and make sure there is no way that water can get in, obvs. I added butter, salt, pepper, parmesan cheese, and lemon juice to my foil packet).
  • One can abandon their dinner preparations and do other things, which is something very important to me when it comes to cooking. Because I have so many things to do. Yes.
  • Minimal clean-up!
Cons of Cooking Salmon in the Dishwasher:

  • It takes a long time to cook this way. There was apparently reason to my dad running the dishwasher overnight when I was younger. Each dishwasher cycle takes between 2 and 3 hours! Plan accordingly. My stomach was not pleased with me for those hours.
Clearly the pros outweigh the cons, so I would attempt this again, except salmon is kind of expensive, so it's probably not going to turn into a regular thing. Also, warning: this method only works for a thin cut of salmon, like a fillet. If your cut is thicker than an inch, it probably won't cook through. But you can eat it raw and call it sashimi!!!*

I also sometimes make this thing called brie bake, which takes about 5 minutes to prepare but makes you look like the most skilled baker ever. You just take jam, a pre-made pie crust, brie, and fold it!

Mine rarely looks as good as the above photo because I fail at the folding part, but whatever. I am sure it tastes similar.

As you can see, after watching the blood-thirstiness of the Hunger Games, I felt a little hungry myself (har har har har). I also recently finished the books, if someone wants to discuss with me. I thought they were just okay. I've also been working on my theses, which at this point can only be described as soporific because every time I wish to reread what I've written, I fall asleep. I am also woefully behind, alas.

*Don't do this. Food-bourne illness is not fun.
